This program is applying for recognition for satisfying tertiary educational requirements for entry into CPA Australia's CPA program and the ICAA's CA program. Credit or higher grades in the appropriate units will qualify students for exemptions from Institute of Actuaries of Australia (IAAust) examinations in the same way as for other Macquarie actuarial degrees.

Suitable For

Students requiring dual tertiary educational requirements to progress towards acccreditation as both a professional accountant and actuary.

Suggested Programs of Study

The full list of recommended programs for actuarial degrees is available.

For a list of Suggested Programs of Study organised by Subject, see Degrees by Subject.

Career Opportunities

The professional actuarial syllabus requires an introductory knowledge of finance reporting. A greater knowledge of accounting practice will be of benefit to many actuaries. Actuaries with accounting qualifications will be well suited to positions such as Chief Financial Officer in companies operating in insurance and superannuation. Consulting actuaries and actuaries moving into management positions will often be part of a team with professionals from other disciplines including accounting. The Institute of Actuaries of Australia has recognised that links with the accounting profession are important by setting up an Actuaries and Accountants Liaison Committee which discusses topics of interest to both professions.
